Citizenship
The
hope of self-governance is that
individuals will rise from among the
governed to take a stake in the
interests of the nation as a whole
and to take an active role in
bringing about the collective vision
for the country that will keep us
free and restrain those who would
destroy the values and rights that
have stood since 1776. It is our
ambition to identify candidates for
public office from among our ranks
of pro-life activists. This means
not only calling others forward to
serve when called upon, but to
provide them campaign organization,
infrastructure and financing to
elect good people to public office.
Unity of Purpose
A
republic such as ours thrives from
deliberation and disagreement within
the citizenry, but all good citizens
must be willing to become united to
speak for their view of
self-governance. The phrase
We
the People implies that
we speak our individual opinions
through the elected representatives
that we choose to govern us as a
people. As citizens we are supposed
to take upon ourselves a willingness
to become involved to keep America
committed to moral values and
individual rights – to strike down
that which in our belief will harm
or even destroy this nation. Only
through such unity can we
productively make our feelings known
and build a better society.
Rule of Law
No
system that tolerates the routine
expectation of circumventing the law
through judicial activism can long
endure. What will evolve is a
system of laws that no one respects
or understands. As we have already
seen, the law becomes something to
be worked around, loopholes
discovered for avoidance by high
paid lawyers who could care less
about respect for law and justice.
We see this in our tax laws,
election laws and even in the
criminal courts. We need and
deserve a system that encourages
people to respect and follow the
law, not one that rewards the act of
twisting the law for self-serving
ends. The first rule must be to
enact only respectable laws.
Political Honesty
American politics is vastly in need
of over-haul. Candidates are sold
like soap and in the end the best
people will not run for office. The
American people have no idea of what
candidates honestly stand for or
against. Political honesty has been
replaced by the results of the
latest polling information. The
candidate stands where the polling
information tells them to stand.
Laws prevent individuals from coming
together to form political
organizations, while big business
and big money are allowed to buy
elections. The entire system of
elections is rapidly running
downhill.
Federal regulation and complicated
legal hurdles surrounding how
political speech is expressed and
how campaigns are financed is
pushing the American people away
from having an effective voice in
the nominating and election
process. By making political
activity a legal minefield, campaign
finance reform has only succeeded in
taking power out of the hands of
regular people and placed power in
the hands of lawyers, bureaucrats
and journalists. The heart of free
speech has always been political
speech. Recent restrictions on free
speech, such as McCain-Feingold, has
disproportionately strengthened and
protected incumbents. The new laws
almost guarantee that only the very
rich or the friends of the very rich
will be able to run for office.
Action
Restoring integrity to America’s
election and governing process will
require a direct confrontation with
the entrenched legal and
bureaucratic establishment that
benefits from our current system.
Everyone must be made to recognize
that our government has created a
system which protects the incumbents
and allows the rich the unlimited
ability to buy influence and traps
the middle class in a hopeless
morass of laws and regulation. The
nation is truly in danger of falling
into the hands of the rich and
powerful elite. For these reasons
action is needed form the grassroots
to the highest levels of
government. A large, powerful
organization, with a structure
capable of speaking with a unified
voice is the only way we can harness
the energy needed to topple the
current entrenched power structure.
